Thing 6

Yikes. Wow. Frustrating. What a time I had trying to get bloglines to work. Bloglines would not send a validation email to my work email. After 5 attempts to get a validation email I switched email addresses. Lo and behold I got the validation before I could say, "C'mon please work this time." I also sent 3 emails to Bloglines pleading for them to send me a validation. They did not respond to those either. I must have missed something somewhere about not using my work email. I hope to be able to look at this feed everyday as Jim has asked. It is getting confusing trying to work at home at after I am finished working at school. I am trying to maintain folders named 23 Things on both my work computer and my laptop at home. I haven't even attempted anything on our desktop at home. On to Thing 7 in the very near future.
P.S. Now try posting on a computer that your wife is also using for the same class. I posted in her blog. Had to delete it from her blog and then try to remember my password to sign in. I have it written down but it is at work. I may be in deeper than I thought.
P.S.v1.o Don't forget to title your darn blog.

  1. Couple things that might help you Otto.
    1) I bet if you look in the SPAM folder of your work email you will find the emails from Bloglines. I know that is where they would be at my school, it would have been considered spam and filed appropriately.
    2) When I mark a site as a favorite that I need a user name and password to get into...I name the favorite like this: Site Name, user name, pword That way when I go to favorites I get my user name info and password info right in the same spot.
I hope those tips help your frustration.

  2. Thanks for the help.
Tried #1 for several days. It was never there. But maybe I missed it.
I will try #2 the next time. I usually can remember most passwords but this was frustrating because I knew I was close.

  3. Many spam filters have even intercepted confirmation emails from our Moodle Server! Consequently, people can't log in to our 23 things class without a little extra help from our Moodle administrator here at the ISD. So I understand your frustration. And if you ever do hear back from Bloglines tech support, let me know. I've never gotten a response from them. I have to say that's not uncommon for many Web 2.0 sites.

  4. I used my gmail account and had no problem getting verification. But, I could not add the class blogs to my Blogline account. I copied the URL but got the message "No feeds were found. Please verify that the website publishes an RSS feed." I also tried to add the edubloggers and edtechupdate that we are supposed to add according to Thing 6, and got the same error message. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong although when I view the videos of how to add a feed I can't find my error. All I can think about is that the trimester ends next week, I have to modify an algebra exam for my resource room students, I have lesson plans to make, I have 5 IEPs on March 9, and I have papers to check and I have spend an hour trying to add feeds to Blogline. I'm frustrated beyond words. I can understand your frustration with not being able to get an email verification. But at least you know that the tech dept. at MPS blocks just about everything so it makes a little sense. I can't make sense about what's happening with me. I could add the feeds from the blogline site with no problem. Maybe I should just call it a night.

  5. I am having the same problem...I can't get bloglines to send my email verification. I also tried my comcast address and there is no response there. Weird, the thought just went through my mind that my behavior is just like what I say the younger generation is guilty of. I need instant gratification! I just finished doing over 500 report cards, I am running a March Read A Thon, starting a book club and writing sub plans for MACUL. Makes me want to scream! Today was my window of opportunity to work on this class, which I am excited about. At least until today!
